"Church Reflections" is an in 2022 started and still ongoing series, for which I have visited all of the around 1000 churches and chapels in my Austrian home state Carinthia, to photographically document reflections in their windows, which, due to their transparency, merge with the sacral interiors. My interest in reflections of this kind began with Church Reflection No. 1, the first photograph of the series which introduces additional recurring thematic elements, such as the depicted bird, which had by coincidence temporarily trapped itself inside, and the custom picture frame that emerges out of the window frame. (Detail images are shown on the starting page.) The in the course of this series collected photo material is now being step by step processed into final photographs. A task, which requires to work around one main technical difficulty, the fact, that, with the intention of documenting a reflection, without appearing myself in it, it is often required to manually assemble a panorama, taken from marginally different positions, in a way that my own reflection remains concealed. By now, the collected material is processed to approximately 70%, regularly new images are being added to the series. Finally, it should be noted, that I feel most comfortable, knowing the pictures are exposed to their ambiguity, without giving their interpretation any personal tendency.
