The collection “Fading Memorial Portraits” documents 100 disappearing photo-ceramic prints on gravestones. I captured them in 2024 as a side project while visiting churches for the “Church Reflections” series in southern Austria. Such headstone memorial photos were a popular and prestigious choice in many Western countries from around 1900 until the 1940s. While some of them still preserve a clear depiction, others have already faded away. For this series, I only collected images in their final stages of vanishment.
